Iris Miller - Exeutive Director 2007 - 2010
Iris Miller, 60, loving wife, mom, sister, aunt and friend to many passed away peacefully surrounded by family on December 31, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, 5055 Blue Ridge Blvd, Raytown, MO at 2 PM on Saturday, January 7, 2012. Iris was born January 31, 1951, in Inavale, NE to Raymond and Edna Meyer, who preceded her in death. Iris leaves behind her loving husband, Jim; her children Niki and Brett; and sister, LaVonda. She graduated from Red Cloud High School in 1969 in Red Cloud, NE, and University of Nebraska in 1973 with BA in Social Work and Psychology. Iris worked with everyone from drug abusers as a women's correction officer to the elderly as Executive Director of the Shepherd Center; even the youth in the community as a substitute teacher in the Raytown School District. Iris enjoyed doing crafts, needlework, jewelry, nurturing plants and flowers, searching Thrift Shops and garage sales for bargains, playing BUNCO with neighborhood women friends, working with the Scouts, traveling and experiencing new adventures with her family. She loved working with Shepherd's Center and participation in her church. Iris's family wants to thank Unit 41 and 42 at the KU Medical Center for their loving care. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Blue Ridge United Methodist Church, Shepherd Center of Raytown or Kansas University Cancer Center. Iris will be remembered for her smile, her love of people, and her generous heart. (arr. When the ice or snow flies this winter please be aware of the SCR weather policy.
If the Raytown School District has cancelled classes for inclement weather the following SCR services and activities will be cancelled:
* Meals on Wheels meal delivery
* Wheels that Care transportation to medical appointments
* All classes and all other services will be cancelled
* SCR and Meals on Wheels offices will be closed
With the financial assistance of the Independence Young Matrons, WeatherEmergency Bags (WEBs) will be distributed to Meals on Wheels clients inDecember 2011. When inclement weather causes school closings, SCR cancels its Meals on Wheels service. This means our Meals on Wheels clients do not receive the daily meal they come to expect. WEBs provide Meals on Wheels clients with a small, shelf-stable emergency food supply of adequate nutrition for up to three days. Thank you IYM for your continued support!
Raytown Rotary has granted $250 in support of the Meals on Wheels Love Fund. The Love Fund is a reserve fund to assist persons in need of short-term nutritional assistance due to financial hardship. Generally, the Love Fund receives minimal support through donations and memorials. Due to the current economy and budget cuts for subsidized meal programs, Meals on Wheels has more requests than the fund can fulfill. Thank you Raytown Rotarians for supporting those in need!
The Shepherd's View newsletter is published monthly January through November. It provides information about events, people and oppritunities at SCR and the Raytown community.
